FGTS Simulator - Calculate Balance, Income and Termination
Simulate FGTS deposit and income over time. Discover the termination fine amounts and estimated anniversary withdrawal amounts.
What is the purpose?
This calculator estimates the FGTS balance based on gross salary, length of service and official income rate, simulates birthday withdrawal values by range and calculates rights in case of unfair dismissal. Fundamental for financial and labor planning.
Formula Used
The mandatory monthly FGTS deposit is equivalent to 8% of the employee's gross salary (2% for minor apprentices).
The capitalized monthly income of the FGTS is fixed by law at TR (Referential Rate) plus interest of 3% per year (approximately 0.2466% per month):
Saldo_{novo} = (Saldo_{anterior} + Depósito Mensal) × (1 + i_{fgts})
In case of unfair dismissal, the fine payable by the employer is 40% of the accumulated balance of deposits made during the contract:
Multa Rescisória = Saldo Total × 0,40
How to interpret the result?
The calculator shows the deposits accumulated over time, the income earned from capitalized interest and the total ending balance. It presents the details with the 40% fine for dismissal and the simulation of withdrawal in the Birthday Withdrawal according to Caixa's progressive tables.
Practical Examples
- Salary of
3.000,00 por 12 meses:Depósito mensal de 240.00. Total deposited in 1 year:2.880,00. Saldo final acumulado (com juros):2,918.00. Termination fine of 40%: $ 1,167.20. - Salary of
5.000,00 por 36 meses:Depósito mensal: 400.00. Total deposited:14.400,00. Saldo com rendimentos:14,930.00. 40% fine: $5,972.00.
Usage Tips
- The option for the Birthday Withdrawal prevents the withdrawal of the total balance in case of unfair dismissal, maintaining only the right to a 40% termination fine.
- The worker can use the FGTS balance to amortize or pay off installments of residential real estate financing after 3 years of work under the FGTS regime.
- Regularly check your FGTS balance on the official Caixa Econômica Federal app to check whether deposits are being made correctly by the employer.
Important Observations
This simulation adopts the official deposit rates of 8% and the yield rate of TR + 3% per year (Law 8,036/1990). The official bands and movement rules can be consulted directly on the FGTS portal at Caixa Econômica Federal. The calculation of the birthday withdrawal uses the official percentage and fixed additional bands published by Caixa Econômica Federal.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the FGTS and how is it calculated monthly?
The FGTS (Service Time Guarantee Fund) is a fund made up of mandatory monthly deposits from the employer equivalent to 8% of the worker's gross salary (2% for apprentices). For a salary of $ 4.000, o depósito mensal é de $ 320. The balance yields the basic remuneration rate of the savings account plus TR plus 3.0% per year (distribution of results).
When can I withdraw the FGTS?
The FGTS can be withdrawn in specific situations: unfair dismissal (full withdrawal plus 40% fine), purchase of the first property, retirement, diagnosis of a serious illness (cancer, HIV) of the holder or dependent, death of the worker, natural disaster recognized by the government, and birthday (anniversary withdrawal). The balance can also be withdrawn after 3 years of account inactivity.
What is the FGTS birthday withdrawal and is it worth joining?
The birthday withdrawal allows you to withdraw annually a portion of the FGTS balance in the birthday month, according to progressive rates: up to $ 500 retira 50%; de $ 500 to $ 1.000 retira 40% + $ 50; from $ 1.000 a $ 5,000 withdraw 30% + $ 150; and so on. The disadvantage is giving up the full withdrawal in case of unfair dismissal, receiving only a 40% fine. It is valid for those who have a stable job and want periodic liquidity.
What is the FGTS fine in case of unfair dismissal?
In case of unfair dismissal, the employer is obliged to deposit a fine of 40% on the worker's total FGTS balance (calculated on all deposits since the beginning of the contract). There is also an additional 10% on the same balance allocated to the government. The worker receives 40%, totaling a fine and balance for immediate withdrawal.
How does FGTS pay off? Is it advantageous compared to savings?
The FGTS yields the TR (Referential Rate) plus 3% per year. In periods of inflation above 3% per year, the FGTS loses purchasing power in real terms. Additionally, the Board of Trustees distributes part of the fund's profits to workers (an average of 1% to 2% extra in recent years). Compared to savings, performance is similar — both are below the CDI and the Treasury Selic as investment alternatives.
Can I use FGTS to buy a property?
Yes. The FGTS can be used to: make a down payment on the purchase of the first residential property, amortize the outstanding balance of real estate financing in the SFH (every 2 years), or settle the outstanding balance. To do this, the property must be within the SFH limit, the worker cannot have another property in the municipality of residence or work and must have at least 3 years of contribution to the FGTS.
What happens to the FGTS in the event of a resignation?
If the worker voluntarily resigns, he or she loses the right to withdraw the FGTS balance immediately — it can only be withdrawn in special situations such as property purchase, retirement or serious illness. You also do not receive the 40% fine. The balance remains in the account and continues to earn normally, and can be withdrawn in the future according to current rules.
How to check the FGTS balance?
The FGTS balance can be consulted via the FGTS app (available for iOS and Android), on the website fgts.caixa.gov.br, at Caixa Econômica Federal branches or via the statement sent by Caixa. The employer is obliged to provide a monthly statement. It is recommended to periodically check whether deposits are being made correctly, as the employer may be fined in case of delay.
