FGTS Birthday Withdrawal: How It Works, Rate Table and Rules
Birthday Withdrawal is a modality created in 2019 that allows Brazilian workers to withdraw part of the balance from their FGTS (Service Time Guarantee Fund) accounts annually, in the month of their birthday.
Although it is an excellent option for obtaining extra money or making a more profitable investment, joining Saque-Aniversario has strict rules and implies the temporary loss of the right to withdraw the full balance in the event of unfair dismissal. Use our FGTS Calculator to calculate your accumulated balance and simulate your labor rights.
How is the Birthday Withdrawal Value Calculated?
The amount you can withdraw annually is not fixed. It depends on the total balance you have in all your FGTS accounts (active and inactive).
The calculation is made by applying a percentage rate on the balance, then adding an additional fixed installment established by Caixa Econômica Federal.

Practical Calculation Examples
Example 1: Worker with $ 4.000 de saldo no FGTS
- O saldo se enquadra na faixa de $ 1,000.01 to $ 5.000,00.
- A alíquota é de 30% e a parcela adicional é de $ 150.00.
- Calculation: ($ 4.000 × 30%) + $ 150 = $ 1.200 + $ 150 = $ 1.350,00.
- Esse trabalhador poderá sacar $ 1,350.00 in the month of your birthday.
Example 2: Worker with $ 25.000 de saldo no FGTS
- O saldo se enquadra na última faixa (acima de $ 20,000.00).
- The rate is 5% and the additional installment is $ 2.900,00.
- Cálculo: ($ 25,000 × 5%) + $ 2.900 = $ 1,250 + $ 2.900 = $ 4,150.00.
- This worker will be able to withdraw $4,150.00 in the month of his birthday.
Advantages vs. Disadvantages of the Birthday Withdrawal
Before deciding to join this modality through the FGTS application, it is essential to weigh the pros and cons:
Advantages
- Cash in hand annually: Allows you to redeem money that would otherwise be locked up and use it to pay high-interest debts or invest in applications that yield more than the FGTS (which yields only 3% per year + TR).
- Maintenance of the termination fine: In case of dismissal without just cause, the worker continues to have the right to withdraw 40% of the termination fine paid by the employer.
- Access to inactive accounts: Allows you to retrieve money from old employment contracts that have remained idle.
Disadvantages
- Blocking withdrawal in case of dismissal: If you are dismissed without just cause, you will not be able to withdraw the full balance of your FGTS account. You will only receive a 40% termination fine. The remaining balance will continue to be retained and can only be withdrawn in future birthday withdrawals or other rules provided for by law (such as retirement or purchasing your own home).
- Grace period: If you regret it and want to return to the traditional modality (Withdrawal-Termination), you will have to wait a grace period of 24 months (two years) for the change to take effect.
